HB 156 - Georgia Constitutional Carry Act of 2017

HB 156 - Georgia Constitutional Carry Act of 2017

Introduced January 26, 2017

Assigned to the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee

Constitutional Carry would make the Georgia Weapons License optional, meaning anyone who is legally eligible to possess a firearm is legally able to carry it, open or concealed. Law abiding citizens would not have to ask permission or pay a fee in order to express their Second Amendment rights. Constitutional Carry does not change the current weapons license system that would remain in place for reciprocity with other states.

HB 364 $5 Hotel/Motel Tax Repeal

HB 364 $5 Hotel/Motel Tax Repeal

Introduced February 14, 2017

Assigned to the Transportation Committee

The $5 Hotel/Motel Tax Repeal would eliminate the entirety of Article 3 of Chapter 13 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated.

“Georgia is the only state in the Union that imposes a statewide tax of this kind. As a limited government conservative, I want taxes to be as low and as fair as possible. The $5 Hotel/Motel Tax fails on both fronts. Not only was it part of the largest tax increase in Georgia history, it’s also inherently unfair and disproportionality affects smaller hotels & motels in border counties that have to compete with cheaper alternatives in neighboring states. Georgia’s hotels and motels are some of the most heavily taxed in the nation, with the top 4 cities nationally for total tax on hotels & motels located in Georgia; Columbus with 22.9%, Macon with 22.7%, Augusta with 20.27% & Atlanta with 19.9%. For those reasons, and in an effort to safeguard the free-market I hope we can eliminate this unfair tax on prosperity.”

HB XXX - Ruby's Law

HB XXX - Ruby's Law

Introduced

Assigned to the XXXXXXXXXXX Committee

Ruby's Law would allow veterinarians to exempt cats and dogs from rabies shot temporarily if it put the animal's life in danger because of health conditions and/or other treatment. This is a common practice in other states.

The bill is named after a constituent's dog who sadly passed away from cancer.
